About UPS & Our Culture

Not ready to drive but want to work alongside UPS drivers and learn the operation from the ground up? Our Driver Helper positions are the most accessible entry point in the entire UPS driver career pipeline — no driver's license required, no vehicle needed, no prior delivery experience necessary. As a Driver Helper, you ride alongside a UPS package car driver and run packages to doorsteps while the driver keeps the truck moving. It is the most physically active, most energizing, and most direct path into the mindset and muscle memory of a UPS driver career. Thousands of current UPS drivers started their journey exactly here.

What Our Team Says (Employee Reviews)

"I started as a Driver Helper during the holiday season just to earn extra money with no intention of staying. But riding with an experienced driver every day taught me things I could not have learned any other way. I saw the routes, I learned the methods, I understood what made a great driver. When I eventually got my driver position I was ahead of my training class because of what I absorbed as a Helper. If you want a UPS driver job eventually, start here." - Current Package Car Driver, Former Driver Helper, San Diego, CA.

Role Overview & Responsibilities

As a UPS Driver Helper, you ride alongside an assigned UPS package car driver on their daily route, running packages from the truck to customer doorsteps at high speed to allow the driver to complete significantly more stops per hour than solo operation permits — no license required, no driving involved, just focused physical hustle.

• Package Running: Grab assigned packages from the package car, sprint to the customer's designated delivery location — door, porch, mailroom, or side entrance — place the parcel correctly, and return immediately to the moving vehicle, maintaining the rapid rhythm that defines a high-performance driver-helper team.
• DIAD Assistance: Assist the driver with package scanning and digital signature capture at stops where the delivery volume is high enough to require two sets of hands operating simultaneously to maintain the route's time schedule.
• Safe Entry & Exit: Follow UPS-trained safe exit and entry procedures every single time you enter or exit the moving vehicle, using the three-point contact method and maintaining constant awareness of traffic, pedestrians, and road conditions at each stop.

Benefits & Perks

UPS Driver Helpers receive competitive hourly wages, weekly paychecks, and the kind of first-hand driver training experience that no classroom can replicate. No driver's license and no prior experience required — just a valid ID and a willingness to move fast. Driver Helper performance is formally tracked by UPS management, and strong Helpers receive priority consideration when permanent package handler and driver openings become available in the building.
